Michael Jackson Thriller

Michael Jackson Thriller

Michael Jackson Billie Jean Thriller Album Michael Jackson’s sixth album Thriller was released on 11-30-1982 by Epic Records and was a follow up to Michael s extremely successful 1979 album Off the Wall.

Again Michael teamed up with Quincy Jones and the ‘Jackson and Jones’ team again created magic.

Although Thriller’s genres were similar to Off the Wall – R&B, jazz, soul, funk, pop and rock, most of the songs were dark in nature and dealt with the supernatural.

Recording was between April – November 1982 at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California.

Michael wrote four of the nine tracks on Thriller.  The first single released was The Girl is Mine and the album went to the top of the charts in many countries with the release of the second single Billie Jean.

Thriller sold a million copies a week worldwide at its peak.  In over a year Thriller became and still remains the best selling album of all times.  It’s is estimated that between 47 – 109 million copies sold worldwide.

Michael Jackson Thriller AlbumSeven of the nine songs on the album were released as singles and all of them reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.  In 1984 Thriller broke records when it won eight Grammys, with awards in three different genres including R&B, Rock and Pop.

Thriller is the album that shot Michael Jackson to super rock star-stardom.  Michael Jackson was the first Black artist that MTV ever showed, before Michael MTV did not show black artist videos.  He also met with President Ronald Reagan at the White House after capturing a record 8 Grammys

This album was one of the first to use music videos, which Michael turned into short movies.  The videos became extremely popular and MTV showed them around the clock.

Rolling Stones ranked Thriller #20 on their 500 Greatest Albums of all Times List in 2003.

It was listed by the National Association of Recording Merchandisers at #3 in their Definitive 200 Albums of All Time.

Thriller was preserved by the Library of Congress to the National Recording Registry because it’s deemed as ‘culturally significant.’
